Kahneman’s central thesis is that much of human cognition runs on System 1 — fast, automatic, pattern-based, and vulnerable to systematic bias. System 2 — slow, effortful, analytical — is the corrective, but it is expensive and reluctant to engage. Learning, at its most meaningful, is a System 2 activity.

The AI age has created a new failure mode: System 1 confidence without System 2 verification. An LLM answers in three seconds; the learner accepts it because it sounds right. Kahneman’s work explains precisely why this feels like learning but isn’t.
